These are studies from the maritime collection of seaman Keith LeLeu on display at the Fletcher Road museum of the Port Adelaide Historical Society.
The collection features Fearless, the only remaining sea-going steam tug in Australia. Keith bought it in Brisbane for $1, sailed it around the coast with a volunteer crew, and berthed it at the Glanville wharf of the Sugar Company (now demolished).
He later donated it to the SA National Trust, which moved it to Cruickshank’s Corner as part of plans to establish a maritime park. In 2017, the site was sold to the Southern Sea Eagles Company to become a ‘new fishing, retail and tourism precinct’. The proposal included the undertaking to restore Fearless.
The then State Minister described it as ‘…an incredibly exciting proposal for the Port …. providing new facilities for the local community and the preservation of the Port’s maritime history.’
It is unclear when or if Fearless will be preserved. Below is the poster, plus the individual works; click on images to enlarge.
